Exploring the Nexus Between Language and Artificial Intelligence; Implication for Education, Community and Society

Abstract

The convergence of language and Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming human-computer interaction, with far-reaching implications for communication, and education in Nigeria. This paper explores the intersection of language and AI, highlighting the key Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques, machine learning approaches, and AI applications that are driving innovation in these sectors. We examine the opportunities and challenges presented by AI-powered language technologies, including language translation systems, chatbots, and sentiment analysis, and discuss the need for inclusive, fair, and explainable AI systems that address Nigeria’s linguistic diversity and socio economic needs. The paper also examines the challenges faced in the use of AI which include high cost, lack of technical skills, job displacement, inaccurate information, and so on. By harnessing the potential of AI in language, Nigeria can enhance its digital economy, improve citizen engagement, and drive growth and innovation.
