CURRICULUM IMPLEMENTATION IN AGRICULTURAL EDUCATION AND NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS

Agricultural education in Nigeria plays a vital role in socio-economic development, relying on effective curriculum implementation. This paper looked that the challenges and prospects of implementing agricultural education curriculum in Nigeria by identifying the problems and prospect for national development, through a comprehensive literature review, including scholarly articles, reports, and policy documents, key themes such as historical evolution, challenges, prospects, and recommendations were analyzed. Historically, agricultural education transitioned from colonial exploitation to national development, facing hurdles like infrastructure deficits, outdated teaching materials, and policy fragmentation. Opportunities for improvement include curriculum reform, partnerships with agro alien industries and entrepreneurs, teachers and training institution, technology integration, and stakeholder engagement. Successful curriculum implementation is crucial for driving national development through agricultural education. Addressing challenges and leveraging opportunities can enhance the quality, relevance, and impact of agricultural education, promoting sustainable development and prosperity. To maximize the impact of agricultural education, Nigeria should prioritize curriculum reform, foster partnerships, invest in teacher training and technology, and enhance stakeholder engagement within a concise framework for sustainable development.
