Abstract

‘JAPA’ syndrome is no longer a fable but a national challenge that may paralyze virtually all sectors of the economy, especially in the field of science and technology, if not adequately addressed. The study assessed ‘’Japa’’ syndrome dysfunction, consequences, and solutions to catalyze science and technology in Nigeria. ‘Japa’, a Yoruba locution (Nigeria tribe), means the massive exit of Nigerian youths, a colloquial term that describes ‘fugitive’ or 'absconding'. politics, loss of potentials, infrastructural decay, weakened educational system, loopholes in the, medical system, hunger and starvation are factors that have instigated, the, ‘Japa Syndrome’. It was recommended amidst others, that government should brace up in activities that will enhance science and technology through sensitization programs and campaigns, giving out soft loans to intending entrepreneurs and government beefing up security in the nation to encourage prospective foreigners coming in to train Nigerians in science and technology
