TRADITIONAL HUNTERS AND MODERN SECURITY; A SYNERGISTIC APPROACH FOR NIGERIA NATIONAL SECURITY

Abstract

The role of traditional hunters in modern Nigeria's national security is a multifaceted issue that warrants examination. This paper explores the relevance of traditional hunters in addressing contemporary security challenges in Nigeria. Using historical methods and oral sources, it highlights the hunters' historical significance in pre-colonial societies, their cultural importance, and potential contributions to modern security frameworks. The study draws on oral traditions, interviews with traditional hunters, and historical records to analyze their past roles in maintaining community security and proposes ways to integrate their expertise into modern security strategies. The abstract discusses how traditional hunters can complement formal security agencies in maintaining law and order, particularly in rural areas, and addresses the challenges and opportunities for leveraging their skills in counter insurgency, surveillance, and community policing.
